Compatibility

Keep the controls you love.

We plan and connect compatible devices around them, so lighting, heating, blinds, security and your everyday routines work together as smoothly as possible.

Your controls, your choice

Most homes keep more than one. We set up the ones your household will use.

Siri and Apple Home

iPhone, Apple Watch, HomePod and the Home app. Control from outside the home needs a home hub, such as a HomePod or Apple TV.

Google Home

Android phones, Nest speakers and displays, and the Google Home app.

Alexa

Echo speakers and the Alexa app, with routines that can start from sensors, times and phrases.

Switches on the wall

Scene buttons and smart switches, so guests and family don't need a phone.

Makers' apps

Some settings, such as detailed heating schedules, stay in the maker's own app. We'll show you which.

One routine, four ways to start it

The same Goodnight routine, started by voice on three platforms or by a button on the wall.

  • "Hey Siri, goodnight"Apple Home
  • "Hey Google, goodnight"Google Home
  • "Alexa, goodnight"Alexa
  • The Goodnight buttonBy the bed
Same result

Goodnight

  • Lights off downstairs
  • Front door checked and locked
  • Heating down to 17°C
  • Outdoor camera alerts on

What we check before we promise

A device can work with your platform and still not do the one thing you bought it for. So we check the exact action, on your model and the UK version, with the platform you use, before we recommend it.

  • Hardware model
  • Protocol
  • UK version
  • Firmware
  • Bridge or hub
  • Control platform
  • The exact action you want

Protocols and hubs, in plain English

You don't need to know any of this. It's here if you're curious, or if you're choosing devices yourself.

Matter
A shared standard that lets one device work with Apple Home, Google Home and Alexa. Which features work still varies between them.
Thread
A low-power network many Matter devices use. It needs a Thread border router, which many recent smart speakers and hubs include.
Zigbee
A common low-power network for sensors and bulbs. It usually needs a hub or bridge.
Z-Wave
Another low-power network, used by some locks and sensors. It needs a compatible hub.
Wi-Fi
Easy to set up, but it needs good coverage where the device is, and many devices can crowd a network.
Hubs and bridges
These connect a brand's devices to your platform. We fit one when it's needed and set it up so you don't have to think about it.

If the internet goes down

Before handover we test the common failures: a power cut, Wi-Fi loss, low batteries, a new phone and a change of owner.

Lighting

Every light keeps a switch that works without the internet.

Locks

A key, keypad or key safe as a backup, and a plan for changing batteries.

Heating

Controls on the wall that still work, and sensible settings if the connection drops.

When things change

We write down who owns each account, who has admin access, how updates are handled and what to do if your router or broadband changes. When you sell or let the home, we can hand the system over to the next person.

What we'll ask you

Seven questions, and why each one matters.

  1. Which devices and brands are already installed? So we can reuse working equipment and spot compatibility limits.
  2. Which voice assistant, app or phone do you prefer? It decides how you'll control everything day to day.
  3. Who else needs to control the home?So nothing depends on a single phone or account.
  4. What must still work without the internet? So there's a safe manual way to do it.
  5. What's the budget now, and maybe later? So we can plan in stages and you don't buy things too early.
  6. Who owns the property and can agree to the work?It sets what we can fit, monitor and change.
  7. Who gets the alerts, and who acts on them?An alert nobody acts on doesn't help.

Questions people ask

Will it work with Siri, Google or Alexa?

We plan around the one you prefer, and keep more than one where that helps your household. Some devices only support some features on some platforms, so we check each device and the exact actions you want before we promise them.

What happens if the internet goes down?

Lights, locks and heating keep a manual way to use them, such as a switch, a key or the controls on the wall. Before handover we test what keeps working without the internet, and tell you.

Who owns the system and the accounts?

You do. We set up accounts in your name, use strong passwords and two-step sign-in, hand over admin access and write down what's installed.

You don't need to know which products you want. Just tell us what you'd like your home to do. We'll help you work out the rest.
